It was in 1988 that a group of interested Hubbard residents began formulating plans for the formation of a Chamber of Commerce in our own city. Fifteen members were elected to serve as charter members. Since its formation in 1988, the Hubbard Chamber of Commerce has striven to fulfill its original by-laws which state that the objects and purposes of the Chamber are to foster, protect, and promote the commercial, industrial, civic, agricultural, and general interests of our community and the surrounding area. Although a major industry has not yet chosen to locate in Hubbard, each year our city continues to have a variety of new small businesses and shops to open. The Chamber sponsors two major city-wide events annually and helps promotes other civic and social events held throughout the year. It also continually promotes our historic city with its rich history and bright future as "The Victorian Crossroads of Central Texas." The Annual Memorial Day Weekend Trade Days Event began in 1992 and has grown in popularity each year. During the three-day weekend, Hubbard is a buzz with various events and activities such as vendors offering a wide range of wares and food concessions, a rodeo on Saturday night with a Sunday afternoon performance, the downtown patriotic parade on Memorial Day, and the Memorial Service at Fairview Cemetery honoring our nation's veterans. The first Saturday in December is our annual Magnolias & Mistletoe Christmas Celebration which began in 2000. The pancake breakfast at the Fire Station gets this fun-filled day off to a great start. Some of the day's events include vendors, food concessions, a children's Christmas program, the downtown Christmas parade, a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, dedication of the community Christmas tree, horse drawn wagon tours of Hubbard's Historic Home District, and much, much more. The Hubbard Chamber of Commerce Office is located at Foster Properties, 101 NE 2nd Street. Regular monthly meetings are held the third Monday of each month (except July and August) at 12:00 Noon in the Hubbard City Hall Meeting Room and are open to the public. A catered lunch is served prior to the business meeting at a cost of $6 per plate. Should you need additional information, please contact the Chamber Office at 254-576-2521.
